Creality's SPARKX sub-brand goes live on Indiegogo on September 21, 2026 with the SPARKX i8 — a four-color printer whose entire pitch is not dumping filament every time it changes color. The mechanism is called QuarTeks: four filament channels merge into a single nozzle just 1.7 mm above the tip, so a color swap takes under one second and wastes a fraction of what an AMS-style prime tower does. Creality quotes up to 80% less waste on multicolor jobs.

That waste number is the whole story — it's where the per-part economics live.

The two lines that decide where the i8 fits: open frame (so it's a PLA/PETG/TPU + basic ABS machine, not an enclosed engineering printer) and QuarTeks (so multicolor costs far less filament than an AMS).

Where QuarTeks changes the math

Every AMS-style multicolor printer — Bambu P1S Combo, A1, Anycubic Kobra X, Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 with Canvas — changes color by purging. The current filament gets dumped into a prime tower or "purge poop" on every color change. On a small 4-color part, that waste can exceed 50% of total filament printed.

QuarTeks attacks that middle line. With a 1.7 mm shared path, the transition waste drops from ~15 g toward ~3–5 g:

At 300 parts/month that's roughly $7–10 of filament saved versus an AMS machine — and it compounds with the time saved, because skipping a tall purge tower shortens every print. Low-purge, not zero-purge — where it sits

It still purges — it just purges little. More colors still add some transition waste, so it's not the zero-purge win a Prusa XL gives you. But at $399 it's not asking tool-changer money either.

Run your own numbers

Don't take the $0.99 → $0.75 example on faith — your part size and color count move it a lot. Two ways to check:

  1. Break-even calculator: put the i8 in the purge column with a low purge % (10–15%), and compare it against a standard AMS machine at 40–50%. You'll see the per-part gap and how many parts it takes for the cheaper filament to pay off.
  2. Main calculator: drop your real multicolor part in, set Purge (%) to 40% for your current AMS setup, then to 10% for the i8. The monthly difference at your volume is exactly what QuarTeks is promising to deliver.

Should you back it?

Depends on what you print:

  • Single-color PLA hobby → No. A Kobra X or Ender 3 V3 already covers you; QuarTeks is wasted on one color.
  • Small multicolor production (decor, keychains, toppers) → This is the target. The waste cut changes the economics — run your part in the break-even calculator first, but for small, colorful parts it pays.
  • Enclosed / engineering work (ABS, ASA, PC, Nylon) → No. Open frame, 300 °C. Look at the QIDI Q2 or X1 Carbon instead.
  • Want zero purge, not low purge → Wait for a tool-changer or nozzle-swap (K3 KliTek) — but expect to pay 2–4× the i8's price.
